On 27-31 January 2025, over 1,200 African women gathered in South Africa for African Women in Dialogue (AfWID) 3 – a convergence of stories, struggles, solutions, and sisterhood.
Women came from 54 African countries. More than 60% were from grassroots or marginalised communities. 50% were young women. There was strong LGBTQI+ and disability representation. This wasn’t just a dialogue — it was a declaration.
We reflected on the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action, then asked: What future are we reimagining?
From the power of intergenerational leadership to the urgency of food sovereignty, economic inclusion, and peace-building, AfWID 3 reminded us that our time is not coming — it is here.
“I am the one Africa has been waiting for” was not a slogan. It was a promise.
And we are keeping it — in the work we do, the communities we serve, and the voices we uplift.
AfWID 2025 was not an event. It was a shift.
